Proposals from the law commission for industry reform have been welcomed by the National Landlords Association (NLA), it has announced.
The commission is calling for the improvement of living standards through the creation of a housing standards monitor for the private rented sector and the development of a single code of housing management practice for landlords.
Among the other proposals for the industry are the establishment of a stakeholder board consisting of representatives of all sides of the private residential rented property industry.
In news that may interest commercial mortgage borrowers, the NLA stated that building on voluntary self-regulation with enhanced good practice would be a good thing for both landlords and tenants.
"We are pleased to see the recognition that local authorities have an important role to play in the enforcement of regulation," the NLA added.
According to the body, it is important to assess the law commission's report alongside other consultations and reports to ensure the piecemeal approach to the private rented sector is placed with a holistic viewpoint.
