Scots facing debt problems amid the economic downturn are to be given help in a national government campaign commencing this week.
Deputy first minister Nicola Sturgeon announced the launch of National Debtline, a debt awareness campaign funded with £382,000 from the Scottish government.
She said: "As the recession bites, families across Scotland are feeling the pressure financially, with increases in food prices, rising bills, and mortgage and lending uncertainty all adding to the headache."
The main objective of National Debtline, she added, is to help people take control of their debt by facing up to it sooner rather than later.
Similarly, Citizens Advice has made recommendations to banks and debt advisory services to join forces to provide a better self-help debt system across the UK after a report revealed that credit-crunched Brits are not receiving the support they need to deal with lenders when in debt.
